Taking Herbal supplements with prescribed Meds

Post a new topicby Neigh on Tue Feb 12, 2008 2:47 pm

Does anyone know if there are side effects to taking a prescribed blood pressure medication with an herbal supplement? My blood pressure has been slowly increasing and my doctor just keeps increasing my blood pressure dosage. I am on a mission to be off of blood pressure meds by the end of this year, the healthy way, diet and excercise. I don't want any more increases in my blood pressure meds, any knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

May I know what hbp medications you are taking right now? And what is the herbal supplement you intend to take to help lower your bp? Would like to know details as your question is quite vague. :)

To your health!

Hi Alvin, thanks for the response. I currently take Verapamil 240mg, once daily. I read that Hawthorne Berries can be beneficial to lower blood pressure and cholesterol, but I am concerned about any interactions this could have with my prescribed medication. Any insights are greatly appreciated. Thanks!
