Had my Hydrocele removed! Thought I'd share my experience! This will hopefully help those of you out there who are thinking about a getting a hydrocelectomy...
I've had mine since I was young, it was on my right side. I believe my Dr told me I had one when I was 6 or so, I'm 21 now. It was small and stayed small for quite sometime. Then once high school hit it started to grow in size. It got to be pretty large. I'm not sure what to compare it to, but it got to the point where I had to wear a larger shirt or something to cover my crotch up! It was embarrassing to say the least. Uncomfortable to walk and it didn't make sex that great either. I read about the two options to get it out. One being drained and the other a hydrocelectomy. No Urologist is going to want to drain it, seeing as how it'll most likely come back. I was deathly afraid of getting a hydrocelectomy, I even thought about draining it myself! Horrible horrible idea that no one should do. I sucked it up and had it removed after all of these years on Oct. 29th. I remember aching around the area and not being able to move too much without their being discomfort, even on vicodin. Surprisingly enough, the incision itself didn't provide any discomfort or pain. Just try and stay laying down and not moving for as long as you can. That way you'll feel minimal discomfort if any and your body can do the best it can to heal itself! You can expect bleeding and drainage, I'm guessing the draining has a lot to do with how large your hydrocele was and how fast it grew. Just keep the area dry and change out your pad or whatever they give you often. The best way I had it described to me was when an RN told me, it's just like when it's a females time of the month, change it out when necessary. I went in for my post op last Tuesday, and to my surprise, I had developed a baseball sized blood clot! Just to be sure, I had an ultra sound done that day after on Wed, and sure enough, it was! Let me tell ya, that blood clot caused more pain than anything from the surgery did. I knew something was up when the swelling never went down and my scrotum hurt more then it did the day after the surgery. Fast forward from Wed to yesterday, I had the blood clot taken out. He was able to open back up the same incision and take it out from there. After all of this, being stuck in bed for nine days now, the discomfort, pain, bleeding/draining, and the blood clot, I can't tell you how happy I am to have FINALLY gotten this done. I feel like a completely new person now and I feel so much more comfortable, even today, than I have in years. All in all, I'm extremely happy I did it. And I'm saying this the day after my second surgery. Just make sure you can keep yourself entertained and you can have someone at your house to bring you food and beverages. Thanks to TV, movies, the internet, video games, and books, I haven't had a horrible time. Hope I didn't ramble too much and I was able to help some of you out!
