elevated psa

Post a new topicby eagle2004 on Mon Aug 27, 2007 8:48 pm

I am a 43 year old male with a p.s.a. level reading of 21 can this be caused by prostatitis? Or can any other reason be the cause? I have seen a urologist and he wants to do a prostate biopsy do you feel this is nescessary?

There are multiple non cancerous reasons for an elevated PSA, including infection and inflammation of the prostate, also ejaculation before testing can cause an elevation. You could consider another test in 4 weeks to see if it has gone down and if not get the biopsy then, However the plan for a biopsy is not unreasonable and the most conservative thing to do.

Good Luck I have just had a blood test done with a 9.6 PSA Level. I am 43 also. More blood was drawn due to a past kidney infection.

I hope all of the best for you.

Hi I am just updating again, I have had 2 p.s.a. test since my surgery in September and they were at 2.3 and 2.9. I am now seeing a radiation oncologist and will be starting radiation on Thursday, as well they have started me on harmonal therapy. I have been diagnosed with locally advanced prostate cancer.
