Outpatient Radical Prostatectomy

Post a new topicby dinatolin on Mon Apr 14, 2008 3:52 pm

Recently I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer Gleason Score = 5. My urologist/surgeon suggested to go for Radical Prostatectomy because I’m 56 years old.
My biggest concern is that doctor recommended to have the surgery (Radical Prostatectomy) in his surgical center and I will go home the very same day after the surgery.
Do you have any suggestions? Should I agree or ask for the surgery in the hospital?
Thanks a lot

Gleason 5 is very good, excellent in fact. At your age probably surgery is the best option, but 'day surgery', I suggest not. Two nights in hospital even after robotic surgery in my experience is essential, to ensure no problems arise, which happen with most of us, unless of course your residence is within the hospital grounds, even then I suggest you'll need to return within 48 hours.
Good Luck,
K.D.
