Testicle shrinkage after varicocele ligationSix days ago i had a class 3 left varicocele ligated. Left testicle seems to have shrunk. I am still using ice packs for pain as i refuse to take pills for it, is that bad? (on 20min. Off 20 min.) swelling is still fairly bad. After this has subsided will the size return? Also aprox. how long should i expect swelling? Thank you in advance for any answers.
Re: Testicle shrinkage after varicocele ligationI had surgery a little over six months ago on a grade 3. I was lucky that my swelling after surgery wasn't very bad. The first week it was very obvious that it was swollen and then it continued to go down. I had some slight swelling left for about a month. Along with the swelling I had numbness on the left side of my incision, which is almost gone after six months. I still have just a slight bit of numbness left. Depending on where you were cut they may not have hit the same nerves that they had to cut to fix mine. I ended up having a three inch incision from just to the side of my penis and then up. It came close to ending my underwear modeling career since the scar goes to the top of my underwear. I am just joking about the modeling career.
It took a little over two months for my testicles to regain their size. I only took the pain medication for a day and a half after surgery and then was moving around slowly. At two weeks I was back out working on finishing the patio around my pool although I had a friend help that did all of the heavy lifting. I didn't do anything heavy for a month. I hope you heal quickly.
Re: Testicle shrinkage after varicocele ligationThanks for the quick reply. I dont really have any numbness, but my incision was only anch inch long, if that. I will be returning to my job (house insulator) on wednesday, 8 days after surgery, but will refrain from heavy lifting a stilt use for another three weeks. (yes i walk on stilts all day at work usually). Also thank you for your well wishes and for sharing your story.
Re: Testicle shrinkage after varicocele ligationYou are lucky they could do your surgery with such a small incision. When I met with the doctor he told me that it would be around that size but due to how everything was situated he had to make mine much longer.
I have an office job, so I was only off one day from work but I wouldn't have been able to do a physical job for a couple of weeks for sure. The biggest problem I had afterwards was that if I walked on uneven ground, tried to run or do anything where there was much shaking, my testicles would ache pretty bad. That went on for about two months. It lessened as the time went on but I was definitely aware if I was moving too much. Hopefully you don't have the same thing because that would slow you down on the job.
